History

The Graduate Program in Psychology is supported by the Department of Psychology of the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar) and aims to contribute to the development of Psychology in Brazil, preparing researchers and professors, integrated with the work being done at the undergraduate level.

Our Graduate Program in Psychology was created based on the experience of founding faculty members in developing the first Graduate Program in Special Education in Brazil, in the 70s, as well as an innovative undergraduate program in Psychology, inaugurated in 1994.

The main goals of our graduate program reflect the current trends in scientific development in Psychology. The definition of the area of concentration in Behavior and Cognition is a result of an integration of our faculty members’ expertise and skills. We are organized in research groups, which have been conducting original research on behavioral and cognitive processes, yielding results and contributions that are being recognized as relevant in the national and international spheres (as suggested by the quality and ratings of our publications). As such, we provide an exciting scientific and academic environment for the preparation of Master’s and Ph.D. students.
